slightly webbed fingers and toes. skin has an iridescent sheen if the sun hits it just so but it's more the effect you catch out of the corner of your eye than one you can stare at. hair has a natural green tinge & uses a specially forumlated toner (of his own devising!) to wash it out.

🌊 once upon a time, a beautiful firebird plummeted from the sky and a merman gatekeeper fell in love. when it was time for the phoenix to leave, the merman wanted to go with him — but it was physically impossible, as he possessed neither legs nor wings, and needed the sea's water to survive.
🌊 so he found the wrong (right) witch, scammed her for a while, revealed himself, pissed her off, and she cursed him with a mostly-human form. "oh no." (oh yes.) "that's not what i wanted at all." (that's exactly what he wanted.) immediately he left his home school, dragged himself onto land at the edge of the scottish highlands, and learned how to walk on his own two legs.
🌊 fiercely protective and infinitely indulgent, he's been by blaise's side ever since. he'll follow his husband anywhere, for any reason, and for any amount of time... but not "no questions asked" because he's a nosy little bitch.
🌊 he took a liking to magic, which as a storm kelpie he had a natural aptitude for, and then another liking for the sciences, which were so close to magic the pursuits felt indistinguishable.
🌊 when he got frustrated with how he was going to DIE in a couple hundred years but the LOVE OF HIS LIFE was just going to KEEP ON LIVING FOREVER, he struck a deal with a devil. he's immortal now! that's cool! and he's a warlock! that's inconvenient cool too!!
🌊 there's a millennium of history here so let's agree that he went to a lot of places, lived a lot of lives, and did a lot of things: some of them for blaise, others for himself, and others still for his patron.
🌊 while sandy's skeptical about joining the adventure society—he prefers the freedom of freelancing—what blaise wants, blaise gets. at least he'll have access to the society's library and resources, which piqued his curiosity enough that he's promised not to whine too much about their new city, living space, routines, chef quality, etc.
